Snow, snow and more snow

How great it is to look out of the bedroom window at the snow and know you don't have the panic of digging the car out, a treacherous journey and concerns about getting home again if the weather worsens.
 Being a teacher for most of my working life, this was a frequent experience in the winter. School management always seemed to dither when faced with the decision to close schools.  Consequently, you were usually stuck in an enormous traffic jam going nowhere, after getting up extra early to get the car going, when the text came through that school was closing. Great now all you had to do was get out of the traffic and spend the next hour or two slipping and sliding on the roads to get home.

Not for me anymore, apart from walking the dog...quite an adventure I'm tucked up in my cosy bungalow, homemade soup lots of it! and homemade bread in the oven yummy.

Might go out and clear the paths...but no hurry!!

  In May 2020, my wonderful husband and lifetime companion died of pancreatic cancer.  Honestly, I didn't want to go on without him, he was my confidant, my counselor, and he kept me grounded when the world seemed to go mad.  But I have children, grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren (at 67 I'm really not old enough!)  I'm blessed so much and with good health.  So almost two years on, I'm putting my life back together.  I still have the mornings when I'd rather pull the covers over my head and not get up, but I live in a first-floor apartment, and Taffie my lab collie cross, has to go out...and she lets me know! Bless her.  At night, memories haunt me, and sometimes in the half-waking, half-sleeping hours I forget and talk to him, think he's next to me, reach out and remember. A year later...

2016 passed in a blur... I'm an old hand now at this retirement thing!    Walking the dog is a daily routine now...but still a pleasure.  Bungalow is decorated apart from the bathroom where we had a wet room installed to make access easier for my husband.  Thinking of changing the sink unit in the kitchen...just thinking.  And after gaining loads of weight last year...I'm back on track and have lost 15 lbs since the second week in January, also developing an interest in exercise. So far, conifers have come down, fencing has gone up and I barrowed in a ton of soil last year to make the back flowerbed. Chitting potatoes

First steps to my veggie garden... After buying seed potatoes from Aldi (I've never tried theirs before...time will tell.) I decided to start chitting them.  I've grown potatoes in the past and old egg boxes are brilliant for this. But I'd forgotten to keep mine and I didn't fancy ferreting around in the dustbin for them!  So I used seed trays instead, they should be ok but it was a bit of a balancing act placing them upright...never mind figuring out where the shoots were. I worked on the principle that where the more pronounced marks were that was the right way up. Then while it was still dry I took some photos of the back garden. I thought this would help me plan my veg plot better.  My plan is to make raised beds where at the moment there is lawn.    I'm not sure where I'm going to put the washing line yet. I've noticed that both Monty Don and Alan Titchmarsh never seem to draw up plans with the washing line in...probably wouldn't mak...
