Time has gone by...

September 2018, we moved from our bungalow to a new apartment in Buxton. Classed as independent living, yet with care on hand if necessary. It was a difficult decision... We both felt we were giving up a lot was it right for us?


We decided it was the right decision, as Charles still had some health challenges.'

Great Kitchen to work in. We had the tiles fitted.

The biggest sacrifice for me was giving up my private garden. But I gained landscape gardens.

Garden area I've commandeered.  With the help of a neighbour, we've created a flower bed using a wooden border purchased from B&Q.  I've planted Buddleias, lavateras and grasses.

We liked the fact that we still maintained the independence of our own place and an area to potter in. A neighbour and I created the flowerbed using wooden edging from B&Q. So far I've planted 2 buddleias, 2 lavateras and a grass. Early days but we've great plans. Working in this area of the gardens is great because of the constant birdsong, while in the distance our resident woodpecker can be heard.





Because we're close to woods and a river, we have plenty of wildlife. Badgers and pheasants are frequent visitors.

As Charles constantly reminded me moving meant him giving up his shed which was packed to the rafters with 'useful things' or to rephrase, things that might come in useful one day... Plus his tools.

As I pointed out we don't live in the shed!! And after all, he gained a purpose-built scooter room.

We were amazed at how soon we settled into our new place.

  In May 2020, my wonderful husband and lifetime companion died of pancreatic cancer.  Honestly, I didn't want to go on without him, he was my confidant, my counselor, and he kept me grounded when the world seemed to go mad.  But I have children, grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren (at 67 I'm really not old enough!)  I'm blessed so much and with good health.  So almost two years on, I'm putting my life back together.  I still have the mornings when I'd rather pull the covers over my head and not get up, but I live in a first-floor apartment, and Taffie my lab collie cross, has to go out...and she lets me know! Bless her.  At night, memories haunt me, and sometimes in the half-waking, half-sleeping hours I forget and talk to him, think he's next to me, reach out and remember. Chitting potatoes

First steps to my veggie garden... After buying seed potatoes from Aldi (I've never tried theirs before...time will tell.) I decided to start chitting them.  I've grown potatoes in the past and old egg boxes are brilliant for this. But I'd forgotten to keep mine and I didn't fancy ferreting around in the dustbin for them!  So I used seed trays instead, they should be ok but it was a bit of a balancing act placing them upright...never mind figuring out where the shoots were. I worked on the principle that where the more pronounced marks were that was the right way up. Then while it was still dry I took some photos of the back garden. I thought this would help me plan my veg plot better.  My plan is to make raised beds where at the moment there is lawn.    I'm not sure where I'm going to put the washing line yet. How much can I cram into my life?

So many things to do... I haven't got time to work! Packing my life with different interests means I'm never bored. I thought I'd make a list of all I'm doing just to see if I can squeeze anything more into my week. Mondays tend to be fairly free except when I take part in 'Open the book'. This is a drama presentation of stories from the bible at local schools. It happens once a month. But when I'm free Monday's are a good time to catch up with household chores, or nip out for an impromptu  coffee with a friend (as I did today)  'In a Pickle', great little cafe! We love this little cafe in Chapel-en-le-Frith.  Service is very friendly and efficient and the food is lovely and fresh.  They even sell free range eggs. I just had a herbal tea today because i'm juicing, but it was great for a good long chat. Monday evening Spanish lessons. Have to fit the homework in somewhere. Tuesday, coffee morning at church.
