So many things to do... I haven't got time to work! Packing my life with different interests means I'm never bored. I thought I'd make a list of all I'm doing just to see if I can squeeze anything more into my week. Mondays tend to be fairly free except when I take part in 'Open the book'. This is a drama presentation of stories from the bible at local schools. It happens once a month. But when I'm free Monday's are a good time to catch up with household chores, or nip out for an impromptu  coffee with a friend (as I did today)  'In a Pickle', great little cafe! We love this little cafe in Chapel-en-le-Frith.  Service is very friendly and efficient and the food is lovely and fresh.  They even sell free range eggs. I just had a herbal tea today because i'm juicing, but it was great for a good long chat. Monday evening Spanish lessons. Have to fit the homework in somewhere. Tuesday, coffee morning at church. Then 1pm...

There is so much talk in the media of an aging population and an increase in loneliness so...retired for 3 years ... am I lonely? The simple answer is no...but I can remember a time when... I longed to go back to work, just to talk to colleagues  about their lives, plans and most importantly to have a good laugh!  Prior to retirement I worked in the best place I've ever worked,  Firstly, I was treated as a professional and for the first time in my teaching career, I didn't feel like there was someone looking over my shoulder waiting to criticise!!   Secondly, I was given lots of ongoing support and the core staff constantly shared teaching ideas that worked... such great colleagues,I loved them all! But best of all, from the moment I arrived at 7.20am until I left usually about 4.45pm I never stopped laughing...boy did I miss that! My retirement wasn't planned and it certainly wasn't my choice, it was the only course of action when it be...

First steps to my veggie garden... After buying seed potatoes from Aldi (I've never tried theirs before...time will tell.) I decided to start chitting them.  I've grown potatoes in the past and old egg boxes are brilliant for this. But I'd forgotten to keep mine and I didn't fancy ferreting around in the dustbin for them!  So I used seed trays instead, they should be ok but it was a bit of a balancing act placing them upright...never mind figuring out where the shoots were. I worked on the principle that where the more pronounced marks were that was the right way up. Then while it was still dry I took some photos of the back garden. I thought this would help me plan my veg plot better.  My plan is to make raised beds where at the moment there is lawn.    I'm not sure where I'm going to put the washing line yet. I've noticed that both Monty Don and Alan Titchmarsh never seem to draw up plans with the washing line in...probably wouldn't mak...

2016 passed in a blur... I'm an old hand now at this retirement thing!    Walking the dog is a daily routine now...but still a pleasure.  Bungalow is decorated apart from the bathroom where we had a wet room installed to make access easier for my husband.  Thinking of changing the sink unit in the kitchen...just thinking.  And after gaining loads of weight last year...I'm back on track and have lost 15 lbs since the second week in January, also developing an interest in exercise. So far, conifers have come down, fencing has gone up and I barrowed in a ton of soil last year to make the back flowerbed. The soil is essentially heavy clay so I'm sure there'll be a lot more barrowing this year!! I've decided to get rid of the lawn and...

Loving life and loving the time I have now I'm retired...it's wonderful. I've looked at the list of some of the things I intended to do now I'm retired Top of the list was writing....haven't got to grips with this yet. But upcycling old sideboard has been done, probably needs another coat,  but pretty pleased with it. Room still needs decorating. Knitted a pair of gloves and nearly finished a cardigan. Have spent lots of time in the garden and have cleared, hedges, huge conifers and shrubs. So I now have flower beds I can work with next year. Still thinking of chickens, but undecided as yet it's a question of space.  But I'm definitely planning planting, cauliflowers, cabbages and courgettes.(Staples on a low carb high fat diet 'LCHF')  I would like a small greenhouse and then I'l grow tomatoes (again a question of space) Lots of plans and lots of time come next year.  At the moment everything is wet and the lawn is so boggy...b...
